The National Environmental Agency of Georgia has warned that the weather will worsen again from the end of the day on 1 October until the second half of 3 October. Intermittent rain is expected across the country, heavy in places.
Where the rain will be heaviest
According to the agency, heavy rain is possible in these areas:
- mountain and high-mountain districts
- Adjara
- Kakheti
- Kvemo Kartli
Thunderstorms, hail and stronger wind are also possible. A storm of 3-4 points is forecast at sea.
What risks the agency names
Heavy rain may cause a significant rise in river levels and flash floods on small rivers. In hilly and mountainous zones, landslides and mudflows may form or become active. The agency rates the hazard level as medium.
What to do
If you plan a trip to the mountains on 2 or 3 October, consider moving it, or check the state of the road before you leave: mudflows and rockfalls are among the main road risks in Georgia. Do not camp or park next to riverbeds, and stay out of the sea on the Adjara coast during the storm.
Autumn rain in the mountains and on the coast is typical of the climate in Georgia, so take waterproof clothes for any trip. In an emergency, call 112.
The warning is valid until the afternoon of 3 October, the first day of Tbilisoba 2026.
